The Justice and Piety of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent

ایک بار ترکی کے سلطان سلیمان قانونی کو بتایا گیا کہ درختوں کی جڑوں میں چیونٹیاں بہت زیادہ ہو گئی ہیں۔ سلطان نے ماہرین کو بلایا اور پوچھا: "اس کا کیا حل ہے؟" ماہرین نے کہا کہ فلاں تیل اگر درختوں کی جڑوں پر چھڑک دیا جائے تو چیونٹیاں ختم ہو جائیں گی۔ مگر سلطان کی عادت تھی کہ وہ کوئی بھی کام کرنے سے پہلے شرعی حکم ضرور پوچھتے تھے۔ اس لیے وہ خود ریاستی مفتی (جنہیں شیخ الاسلام کہا جاتا تھا) کے گھر گئے۔ جب سلطان وہاں پہنچے تو شیخ گھر پر موجود نہ تھے۔ اس لیے سلطان نے ایک پیغام شعر میں لکھ کر ان کے لیے رکھ دیا: "اذا دَبَّ النملُ علی الشجر، فھل فی قتله ضرر؟" "اگر درختوں میں چیونٹیاں ہو جائیں، تو انہیں مارنے میں کوئی گناہ ہے؟" جب شیخ واپس آئے اور یہ پیغام دیکھا تو جواب میں یہ لکھا:  "اذا نُصِبَ میزانُ العدلِ، أخذ النملُ حقہ بلا وجل" "اگر انصاف کا ترازو قائم ہو تو چیونٹیاں صرف اپنا حق لیتی ہیں، ظلم نہیں کرتیں۔" شیخ نے اشارہ دیا کہ سب سے اہم چیز عدل (انصاف) ہے۔  سلطان کا آخری سفر:

 سلطان سلیمان آسٹریا کے دارالحکومت ویانا کو فتح کرنے کی نیت سے جہادی سفر پر نکلے، لیکن راستے میں ان کا انتقال ہو گیا۔ ان کا جسد خاکی واپس استنبول لایا گیا۔ جب ان کی تجہیز و تکفین (غسل و دفن) کا وقت آیا تو ان کی وصیت ملی جس میں لکھا تھا: "میرا صندوق بھی میرے ساتھ دفن کیا جائے۔" علماء حیران ہوئے کہ شاید یہ صندوق ہیرے جواہرات سے بھرا ہو گا، کیونکہ اتنی قیمتی چیزیں زمین میں دفن نہیں کی جاتیں۔ لہٰذا فیصلہ کیا گیا کہ صندوق کھولا جائے۔ جب صندوق کھولا گیا تو لوگ حیران رہ گئے کہ اس میں وہ تمام فتوے موجود تھے جو سلطان نے علماء سے لینے کے بعد حکومتی فیصلوں کے لیے استعمال کیے تھے۔ سلطان نے یہ وصیت اس لیے کی تھی کہ اللہ کو ثبوت کے طور پر پیش کر سکیں کہ انہوں نے کوئی بھی فیصلہ بغیر شرعی فتویٰ کے نہیں کیا۔ یہ دیکھ کر شیخ الاسلام "ابو سعود" جو ریاستی مفتی تھے، رونے لگے اور کہنے لگے: "سلطان! تم نے تو اپنے آپ کو بچا لیا، ہمیں کون بچائے گا؟"

 Once, Sultan Suleiman of Turkey was informed that ants had spread too much in the roots of the trees. He called the experts and asked, "What is the solution?" They replied, "If a certain oil is sprayed on the tree roots, the ants will die." But Sultan had a habit — before taking any step, he would always check the Islamic ruling. So he went personally to the house of the chief Mufti (known as Sheikh-ul-Islam). The Sheikh was not home, so the Sultan wrote a message in poetic form: 📊 "If ants crawl over trees, is there any harm in killing them?" When the Mufti returned and saw the message, he replied: 📊 "If the scale of justice is established, the ants only take their due without fear." The Mufti meant that justice is the most important thing. --- ⚔ Sultan's Final Journey: Sultan Suleiman left for a jihad campaign to conquer Vienna, the capital of Austria. But he passed away on the way. His body was brought back to Istanbul for burial. During the funeral, his will was found in which he requested: "Bury my box (chest) with me." The scholars were surprised, thinking it might be full of jewels. Since valuable items should not be buried, they decided to open it. But when they opened the chest, they found all the Islamic rulings (fatwas) the Sultan had obtained from scholars before making decisions. He wanted to present them before Allah as proof that he never ruled against Islam — all decisions were backed by proper fatwas. Seeing this, Sheikh-ul-Islam Abu Saud (the state Mufti) started crying and said: "O Sultan! You saved yourself — who will save us?"
