It is not words, but intention and action, that give strength.

A king said to a dervish, “Teach me the supplication that you recite.” The dervish refused. The king then learned that supplication from someone else, but when he recited it, there was no effect. The king called the dervish and said, “I have learned the supplication, but it had no effect. Tell me, where is the mistake?” The dervish smiled. He said to a soldier, “Arrest the king.” The soldier remained silent and did not move. Then the king, in anger, commanded, “Arrest this dervish!” Immediately, the soldiers stepped forward and surrounded the dervish. The dervish then said, “Look! The words were the same, the command was the same, but the difference was in our status. Your command was obeyed by everyone, my command was obeyed by no one. In the same way, your supplication has no effect because you have no status in the spiritual world.” The truth is that power is not in words, but in a person’s character, intention, and closeness to Allah. The Qur’an is healing, and remembrance has power, but the effect is given only to the one who recites with a sincere heart, pure intention, and righteous character. It is not words, but intention and action, that give strength. ایک بادشاہ نے ایک درویش سے کہا: “مجھے بھی وہ ورد سکھا دو جو تم پڑھتے ہو۔” درویش نے انکار کر دیا۔ بادشاہ نے کسی اور سے وہ ورد سیکھ لیا، مگر جب اس نے پڑھا تو کوئی اثر نہ ہوا۔ بادشاہ نے درویش کو بلایا اور کہا: “میں نے ورد سیکھ لیا ہے، لیکن اس کا کوئی اثر نہیں ہوا۔ بتاؤ، غلطی کہاں ہے؟” درویش مسکرایا۔ اس نے ایک سپاہی سے کہا: “بادشاہ کو گرفتار کرو۔” سپاہی خاموش رہا اور ہلا تک نہیں۔ پھر بادشاہ نے غصے میں حکم دیا: “اس درویش کو گرفتار کرو!” فوراً سپاہی آگے بڑھے اور درویش کو پکڑنے لگے۔ تب درویش نے کہا: “دیکھو! الفاظ ایک جیسے تھے، حکم بھی ایک ہی تھا، لیکن فرق ہماری حیثیت کا تھا۔ تمہارا حکم سب نے مان لیا، میرا حکم کسی نے نہ مانا۔ اسی طرح تمہارا ورد اس لیے اثر نہیں کرتا کیونکہ روحانی دنیا میں تمہاری کوئی حیثیت نہیں۔” اصل بات یہ ہے کہ اثر الفاظ میں نہیں ہوتا، بلکہ انسان کے کردار، نیت اور اللہ سے قرب میں ہوتا ہے۔ قرآن میں شفا ہے، اذکار میں طاقت ہے، لیکن اثر اُسی کو ملتا ہے جو سچے دل، پکی نیت اور نیک کردار کے ساتھ پڑھتا ہے۔ الفاظ نہیں، نیت اور عمل طاقت دیتے ہیں۔
